There is plenty of free stuff to do this weekend in Groningen, from cocktails and craft beers at DOT to the Rumbling Earth festival in the city centre and Poets in the Prinsentuin. The Groninger Internet Courant has put together the best ways to have a good time on the cheap in the coming days.

Cocktail and Craft Beer Festival
For the second year running, DOT is the place to be this summer for cocktail and craft beer lovers. Last year’s edition was held in September, but this year, you can sip on your beverage of choice at the city beach while boogying to the sounds of DJ collective Kraak & Smaak.

Poets in the Prinsentuin
This year marks the 22ndedition of this special event in the Prinsentuin gardens in the heart of Groningen. Poets of all ages come together to share their work with thousands of visitors, from the Netherlands and abroad. This year’s edition will feature quite a few English-language readings set against the back drop of the tea fields, surrounded by curving alcoves and hedges of the stately gardens.

Street Festival Rumbling Earth
The city’s shopping streets will be flanked by nine stages featuring free musical performances by Groningen-based artists like Arnold Veeman, Martijn van der Zande and Isa Zwart. An after party will kick off at Warhol on Saturday evening.

Open air cinema in De Wijert
Residents of De Wijert neighbourhood can take their pick of three free outdoor film screenings at the Hendrik de Vriesplantsoen: “The Big Friendly Giant” at 1:30 p.m., “Alice in Wonderland” at 7:30 p.m. and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” at 9:45 p.m.. Bring your own chair and snacks.

Ommelander Markt
This regular market featuring goods from local craftspeople and farmers is returning to the Harmonieplein this weekend. Wander through the stalls and take your pick of locally-produced honey, potatoes, bread, meat, fish and more.

Sterrebos Live
This weekend will mark the third edition of this free music series in the bandstand in the Sterrbos park on the Hereweg. On Sunday, TARAB will bring desert blues to the stage, and Soul Vibration will keep the party going with their mix of singers, horns, keyboards and bass as they channel the soul of the ‘60s and ‘70s.
