Free glasses to view a solar eclipse in Groningen
A solar eclipse will occur next Thursday, likely to be visible across northern Europe, and the University of Groningen wants as many people as possible to be able to see. Volunteers from the Kapteyn Astronomy Institute at the university will be handing out free ‘ecplise glasses’ to help people view the phenomena without blinding themselves. As reported by the GIC.
The glasses will be available at five locations in Groningen next Thursday, June 10, in the morning. The eclipse starts at 11:21, with maximum coverage at 12:27, and a return to normal at 13:36. The next eclipse after that will be on October 25, 2022.
So-called eclipse glasses are needed to follow the eclipse safely, and will be distributed at five locations on June 10 from 10:30.
The locations are:
• Roof of the Forum Groningen
• Academieplein, Broerstraat
• Around restaurant Zondag in the Noorderplantsoen
• Around Cafe ‘t Zielhoes in Noordpolderzijl
• Lauwersnest activity center, De Rug 1, Lauwersoog
The institution has asked that the eclipse fans observe Coronavirus regulations, and follow the instructions of the volunteers of the Kapteyn Institute.
