A former Leeuwarden Christian school teacher, who pleaded guilty to a felony sex charge, was sentenced on Tuesday.
The judge sentenced the 47-year-old to 18 months in prison with six months suspended, meaning he’ll spend one year behind bars, the Leeuwarder Courant reported.
The former teacher also got three years of probation.
The offender, who worked at Beyers Naudé secondary school in Leeuwarden as a geography teacher, was accused of having sex with an underage female student in 2018 and 2019. His victim said they had sex at least 10 times and also shared other sexual encounters.
The defendant acknowledged he had a sexual relationship with the student, but claimed the relationship began only when the girl turned 18.
The Friesland man has been banned from teaching for five years. He was also ordered to participate in a treatment program and refrain from having contact with the victim for three years.
