Service from Groningen Airport Eelde to the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife will resume in the winter of 2018.
According to the Groningen Internet Courant, Transavia will offer non-stop service to Tenerife on Fridays this winter. Eelde offered summer flights to Tenerife until 2016, according to RTV Noord.
Non-stop flights to sunny destinations like Lanzarote and Gran Canaria will also be available from Eelde in the colder months: Transavia will fly to Lanzarote every Thursday, and TuiFly will operate two flights a week (on Monday and Friday) to Gran Canaria.
According to Jonas van Dorp, the business development manager at Groningen Airport Eelde, demand for flights to Tenerife from the north is strong. “With that demand in mind, we entered talks with travel agencies and the airlines to see what we could do. We are glad that these groups have come together to make this a reality.”
Regular flights to London (three times a day), Copenhagen (two times a day) and Munich (once daily) will also continue from the airport through Nordica and Flybe. The hubs of Munich and Copenhagen mean that passengers can depart from Groningen and reach major global destinations such as New York, Singapore and Beijing.
