Five hundred people are losing their jobs at hospitals in Hoogeveen in the province of Drenthe and Stadskanaal in the province of Groningen
According to the local newspaper in Assen, the Asser Courant, the redundancies have been mandated by the Treant group, an organisation to which both hospitals belong.
At the same time, many hospitals in the region are struggling with increasing waiting lists and have had to refuse more patients, recently.
The doctors and care administrators involved in the plans for the concentration of hospital care in Drenthe and Southeast Groningen presented the next step in the business plan on Tuesday morning. The plans appear to cost three hundred jobs in direct care and two hundred in the support professions. De Treant Zorggroep now has 2700 employees in hospitals and that will be further reduced to 2200 from April next year.
