Still got it
Arjen Robben is seemingly doing everything to be fit for the beginning of the new football season. Images released on Friday show the Groninger star working extremely hard on the training field, having had a season not playing after leaving FC Bayern Munich in 2019.
Robben announced on June 27 that he will make his comeback at FC Groningen to help the club’s financial situation during the Coronavirus outbreak. His skills on the field may be useful too, with FC Groningen sitting 9th in the Eredivisie table when the season was stopped having only scored 27 goals across 26 games.
The economic situation at the club is already beginning to improve: shirts with the number 10 have sold out continuously since the announcement, and the club has already sold about 4,000 extra season tickets. As reported by the GIC.
“So far I am fit, but in a few weeks we may come to the conclusion that there is no real comeback,” was Robben’s personal view on the chances of him taking to the field for FCG. Images of Robben from the Topsport complex and the nearby training field at Corpus den Hoorn in Groningen say something different: Robben looks both sharp and, seemingly, match fit.
Robben may make his comeback in the exhibition game against Heracles on August 1. FC Groningen hopes to be able to admit public during the game in the Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium.
