The first snow of the year has fallen in the province of Groningen, and there may be more to come this week.
Even though it was mostly wet snow, in some places in the province, such as Northern Groningen, the snow stayed intact long enough to turn some gardens white.
The light snowfall already gave residents a taste of winter, although the ‘real’ meteorological winter arrives on December 21st.
Weather site Weeronline said that “the coming days will be bleak, wet and stormy with maximum temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees. Showers regularly produce winter precipitation, which means that local short-term slippery conditions are possible.” It’s important to be extra careful in the morning if it gets slippery, especially when the rain freezes overnight.
The winter precipitation, which could be a mix of rain, hail, or snow depending on the precise air conditions, will only last until Friday, as the weather will become milder on Saturday. So a thick layer of snow is still not expected for the time being.
