The number of corona infections reported in the province Friesland this week is about 14% lower than a week ago. This week there were 1,162, compared to 1,350 a week earlier. The number of deaths remains stable: it went from 21 to 19.
On average, 166 new infections were reported every day in the past week. That figure was 193 last week.
Most infections were reported this week in the municipality of Leeuwarden, namely 237. A week ago this was 255. After Leeuwarden comes Súdwest-Fryslân with 196. That is also a considerable decrease, down from 234 last week.
Schiermonnikoog
Furthermore, Schiermonnikoog stands out again: 10 infections have been diagnosed on the island in the past seven days, two less than a week ago. But because not many people live there, that is still relatively many.
With the 1,162 positive tests over the past week, a total of 26,947 Frisians have now been diagnosed with the corona virus.
Declining number of deaths
For the third week in a row, the number of corona deaths reported is declining. This week, the RIVM reported 19 deaths in Friesland, two less than a week ago. Not all deaths may have occured in the past week; sometimes figures are reported later.
The decline in the number of deaths is due to the improving situation in nursing homes. Fewer people become infected because more and more people have been vaccinated.
The official death toll related to the coronavirus in Friesland is now at 405. The actual number of deaths from the virus is higher, because not everyone is tested. Therefore, it is not known for every death whether it was caused by the virus or not.
