The driver of a car that was hit by a train near the Drenthe town of Echten has died.
The accident brought train travel between Meppel and Hoogeveen to a standstill on Thursday morning.
The driver was struck at a rail crossing on the Velingweg. The police are investigating what circumstances led to the fatal collision.
