Considering that one plane could decimate a small town, two injuries isn’t too bad
Translated by Thomas Ansell
An ‘incident’ has occurred at Leeuwarden airbase, concerning one of the F-16 fighter jets stationed there. The multi-million euro weapons of war, each capable of holding hundreds of kilos of bombs (along with various other ‘advanced weapons’) had an issue following start-up.
The plane then went AWOL, driving itself into an adjacaent building and injuring someone inside.
As reported by the Leeuwarder Courant, it is not yet clear what the incident was, although rapid-response units quickly doused the plane following the pilots ejection.
The pilot was Belgian, and was attending a Weapons Instructor Course at the flight base, all the better to educate the next generation of pilots that can obliterate villages with the press of a button.
All of the F-16’s will leave Leeuwarden Air Base in the coming days and weeks, to be replaced by the vastly more expensive, noisy, and deadly F-35.
