The local police called in a team from the EOD this morning
The “Explosieven Opruimingsdienst Defensie” (EOD) was called in to investigate a possible explosive device under a car in Paracelsusstraat in Groningen this morning, reports the GIC. After the team arrived, a hand grenade was dismantled and the area made safe, the GIC then updated.
The police received a report of a foreign object under a car around 10:00 this morning, a police explosives scout was then deployed to assess the object. Photos show that the object resembles a hand grenade, and the EOD, which is responsible for investigating and making safe object like this, arrived at around 12:00.
According to a spokesman for the police, EOD then made the grenade safe. The police are now continuing their investigations. The street has been closed, and some homes have been evacuated: “we’ve got good contact with local residents, and are ensuring that they know what they need to stay safe”, said the police.
