The EU Music Prize will continue to be awarded during Eurosonic/Noorderslag festival for the next three years. The award was previously known as the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).

According to Dagblad van het Noorden, the province and the city submitted a letter to the festival organisers to keep the award ceremony in the north in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Both the province and the city paid 100,000 euros for each year for the rights to host the award ceremony, which is the same price they have paid in previous years.

The EU Music Prize is awarded to new, groundbreaking European pop artists who have had commercial success abroad. The award show has kicked off the Eurosonic/Noorderslag festival for years: Jools Holland hosted this year’s ceremony, which was held at Martiniplaza and broadcast across Europe on television.

Previous winners of the prize include Adele, Hozier, Mumford & Sons, Gabriel Rios and Of Monsters and Men.
