Anyone heading to the “Escher’s Journey” exhibit at the Fries Museum should be sure to buy their tickets online in advance: museum-goers intending to buy tickets at the museum were left empty handed on Thursday and Friday.
All of the tickets were already sold out online over the past two days. The popularity of the exhibit meant that people who had travelled to Leeuwarden from across the country to see the recently opened exhibit were out of luck. The Leeuwarder Courant reports that the Fries Museum recommended that visitors go to De Princessehof, Escher’s birthplace, as an alternative.
Fries Museum spokesperson Femke Haijtema says, “We can only permit 300 visitors an hour. We’ve instated time slots so that we can let in as many visitors as possible, but full is unfortunately full.”
The museum is considering extending its opening hours and will decide on that next week.
