The process is often blamed for a lack of International students in Dutch student houses
The housing corporation Lefier has decided to end the process of appearing before current housemates for potential tenants, or ‘hospiteren’. The change will affect about 250 houses. The process has often led to International students losing out on the opportunity of living in a Dutch student association house.
Lefier has decided that from now on students will no longer need nomination in its student houses, but current housemates will still play a role. Instead, Lefier will itself nominate ten students, with current housemates having a choice from the shortlist, reports the GIC.
Vindicat & Albertus (naturally) get a bye
The Student & City faction of the Groningen city council finds it remarkable that there is an exception for association houses of Vindicat and Albertus where new housemates may continue to be elected by nomination by current house residents.
