The municipality of Emmen has already about 300 people in the former Fletcher Hotel and at the Parc Sandur holiday park. In total, 1000 reception places will initially be created throughout the province of Drenthe.
The municipality is working together with the VRD, local organizations, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Refugee Work, and several churches to organize the reception of Ukrainian refugees in the best possible way. In contrast to the reception of refugees from other countries, the municipality in this case is responsible for providing shelter, food, medical care, financial support, and education.
The former Fletcher Hotel was already used last year for the temporary reception of asylum seekers. Ukrainians are expected to be accommodated here for the next three months.
For any residents who wish to contribute in any way to welcoming efforts for refugees, a good resource is the Emmen helps Ukraine page, which features frequently asked questions and information about, among other things, reception, registration, education and access to medical care.
