The annual King’s Day Concert gets a new location this year! Traditionally held in the city hosting the festivities, Emmen will take center stage on April 22nd. The Atlas Theater will play host to the musical celebration, RTL Nieuws reports.
As always, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will be in attendance. The concert embraces the theme “Voices from Boundless Emmen.”
The Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst (‘Dutch Government Information Service’) recently announced the performers. Concertgoers can expect to be entertained by harpist Remy van Kesteren, vocalist Rosa da Silva, the Calefax Reed Quintet, and the Animato Quartet. Their repertoire will include compositions by violinist Pietro Antonio and singer Daniël Lohues.
A royal tradition with a modern twist
Founded in 1985 by Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus, the King’s Day Concert has undergone a transformation. Previously held at Noordeinde Palace until 2013, it now travels to the city celebrating King’s Day.
Even if you haven’t received an invitation, there’s no need to fret! The concert will be broadcast on NPO 2 on Saturday, April 27th at 8:35 PM.
While the concert is still a month and a half away, excitement is already brewing in Emmen. The city has announced the King’s Day route, revealing they’ve exceeded their budget by €800,000. But hey, let’s not let that dampen the celebratory spirit!
