RTV Drenthe reports that three Japanese companies – Teijin, a chemicals company; Jellice, a gelatine and collagen manufacturer; and Menicon, a contact lens company – provide more than 1,000 jobs combined in Emmen. Van Oosterhout told the local broadcaster that the management of the companies had extended an invention to the local government to pay them a visit in Japan.
Van Oosterhout says that a working visit is important for maintaining the region’s relationship with the companies, as well as discussing potential expansion of current operations.
Representatives from NOM, a Groningen-based investment company, and provincial executive representative Henk Brink are also in the region in connection with the trip. Brink is currently on a working visit in China focused on the tourism sector.
