The municipality of Emmen is worried that the Wildlands adventure park may not reach its goal of 1.2 million visitors.
Alderperson Jisse Otter shared the municipality’s concerns during a presentation of the park’s 2017 figures.
The municipality is a guarantor for 60 million euros for the park and only expects their financial exposure to grow. Based on preliminary numbers, it seems that the park may fall short of its projected goal of 1.2 million visitors in 2018.
RTV Drenthe reports that the municipality is calling for a new business case from the park by August. The plan should include how the park intends to attract more visitors and cut costs. The municipality also wants the park to take a worst case scenario into account.
The council described the mediocre visitor numbers as “concerning” and stated that they would follow the park’s performance more closely.
