The city centre of Leeuwarden will be the first in the entire Netherlands to have all parcels delivered by electric modes of transportation.
By 2025, PostNL wants deliveries to be made in the heart of 25 Dutch cities by electric vehicles, including e-bikes and delivery vans. The city centre of Leeuwarden is the first to roll out the new delivery service: alderperson Friso Douwstra was the recipient of the first e-delivery on Monday, reports the Leeuwarder Courant.
Over the course of 2018, PostNL’s parcel delivery vehicles will gradually be replaced by electronic modes of transportation. Leeuwarden has the honour of being the first city to go electric because of the Elfwegentocht, an initiative in the first two weeks of July to encourage Frisian villages, cities schools and businesses to utilise sustainable transportation.
