Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the collision occurred just after noon on Monday at the intersection of the Breekweg with the N361 in the town of Leens. The road was closed in both directions while the police investigated the site, but they have not yet announced what caused the wreck.
According to RTV Noord, including Monday’s crash, 13 fatal accidents have occurred on the roadway in the past 15 years. In late May, the province of Groningen announced plans to improve safety on the N361 by 2021 by adding more roundabouts and traffic islands.
