Following a similar arrangement for Groningen and Langelo, residents of Emmen and Zuidlaren whose property has been damaged by earthquakes will also receive compensation.
The Asser Courant reports that NAM and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate have agreed to compensate the residents following a meeting with Emmen alderperson René van der Weide and Tynaarlo mayor Marcel Thijsen.
Local politicians have fought for years for an independent damage claim process, not only in Drenthe but nationwide. Two induced quakes over the past couple of years have resulted in roughly 500 damage claims in the municipalities of Tynaarlo, Aa en Hunze and Emmen.
Unlike Groningen, Zuidlaren and Emmen residents will not receive an additional 4,000 euros to carry out home improvements such as adding solar panels, but they will have a similar deal. Mayor Thijsen says, “We have agreed on an allowance of 25 percent on top of the damage compensation up to 4,000 euros which residents can reinvest in their homes.”
