The plant is the first in the world that can handle contaminated metal
King Willem-Alexander opened the Purified Metal Company (PMC) recycling plant in Farmsum near Delfzijl in the North of the province of Groningen this morning: the first in the world that can handle contaminated metal.
The king opened the factory by placing a piece of melted metal on a pair of scales. The block is the end product that will eventually be processed in the steel industry, according to the Groningen broadcaster RTV Noord.
In addition to the king, State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management, Stientje van Veldhoven (D66), was also present at the opening. According to a spokesperson for PMC, the plant will process about 150,000 tons of metal per year.
