Inflation in the Netherlands has notched a new record high, RTV Drenthe reports, citing data from national statistics organisation CBS.
Consumer prices jumped 7.6% from a year ago in January, up from 6.4% in December. The key drivers for inflation were higher energy prices which, according to CBS, rose by approximately 75%, when compared with a year earlier.
Food, beverages and tobacco, the price of which rose at an annualised rate of 4.2% during the month, were also a big contributor.
The soaring cost of living within the euro area is likely to dominate the first European Central Bank governing council meeting of the year which is expected to be held today.
