India is experiencing enormous numbers of new Coronavirus patients

Translated by Thomas Ansell

On three consecutive days last week, India set the world record for the most new Coronavirus cases in a one-day period, with over 300,000 confirmed daily. The huge rise in infections has led the Dutch government to bring in a flight ban from the country from this evening at 18:00, reports the NOS.

The ban is due to last until May 1- however only seven flights per week land in the Netherlands directly from India, with the majority of people transiting via another country.

Flights with goods or medical staff may still land in the Netherlands, though. As for helping the people of India, the Dutch government is taking part in EU-wide shipments of oxygen, ventilators, and medicines. This comes as part of a greater aid effort from countries across the world, with countries including the US, France and Pakistan sending oxygen and ventilation equipment.
