Dutch government confirms Coronavirus regulation loosening

From Wednesday places like gyms, zoos, and the sex industry can re-open, whilst pubs can put out terraces from 06:00 to 20:00

As reported by the NOS, the Dutch cabinet has given a final go-ahead for the second step of the ‘reopening plan’, meaning that from Wednesday various industries can re-open. It’s good news for those wishing to visit a zoo, theme-park, or outdoor culture location; as well as those wishing to visit the gym, or utilise the services of a prostitute.

The easing was announced last week, but on the condition that a final decicion would be made today once Coronavirus figures had been analysed. On the advice of the OMT (Outbreak Management Team), a decrease of 20 percent compared to the peak in April was required before any further changes to Coronavirus policy. That decrease has been achieved in recent days.

On the basis of the Coronavirus figures, Hague insiders (most announcements from the current government have come via leak) told the ANP news agency on Sunday that it looked “positive”. Minister Hugo de Jonge (CDA, Public Health) says that the Coronavirus figures have dropped by 30 percent compared to the peak of the current third wave in April.

Now that the second step in the reopening plan can be taken, the hospitality industry may open longer from Wednesday: from 06:00 to 20:00. A maximum of fifty people are still allowed on a terrace and two people (excluding people from the same household) are allowed to sit at a table. Attraction, nature and animal parks may also reopen under certain conditions.

In addition, sex workers can work again; the last of the ‘contact professions’ to return to availability. Unlike other contact professions, reservations are not mandatory, but customers must do a health check in advance.

Indoor sports locations, including gyms and swimming pools, may reopen. It is mandatory to book in advance and to do a health check here too.
