An eye-sore will soon become somewhere to sunbathe
The Duisenberg pond at the entrance area of the Zernike Campus will get a long walking platform and other upgrades- turning it into a nice place to sit by the water. This was desperately needed, because the quay area was an eyesore for students, teachers and other users of the Zernike Campus for years, reports the Groninger Internet Courant.
Refurbishing the pond is part of the upgrade of the Zernikelaan. The east side of the Duisenberg pond will be refurbished from Monday. The upgrade will be fully complete by the end of 2020.
For several years, the quay area along the east side of the Duisenberg pond has been an eyesore. The walkways are no longer accessible and the western carriageway has also been out of use for several years. The quay area will soon become a green bank with a better connection to the pond. There will be a long walkway along the length of the pond, and a broad staircase to the water will be made on the north side. It is hoped that the northern part of the Campus will become safer and greener between KVI and Professor Uilkensweg through the upgrades.
In April a start will be made on installing the foundation piles for the deck at the Duisenberg pond. This takes about 6 weeks, provided that the work can be carried out consecutively. These activities may cause vibrations and noise nuisance for local residents.
