The bicycle courier sector in Leeuwarden is getting a new boost: the Groningen-based company Dropper will soon offer delivery service in the Frisian capital.

According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the couriers of Dropper, a company which was developed by Groningen entrepreneur Jantine Doornbos, will start operating in Leeuwarden this summer. Doornbos founded the Groningen bike-based meal delivery service Fooddrop in 2016 based on the lack of delivery options for healthier foods.
Since 2016, Dropper has expanded its services to include working as couriers for other retailers: after food deliveries leave their bags empty, the Droppers can pick up packages from companies in the city to deliver to clients. A bouquet delivery from the florist, bringing shoes to the cobbler for resoling or groceries from the Jumbo are among the services that are already possible for clients in Groningen – all with the guarantee that everything will be there within an hour.
Algorithms
The algorithms of the Dropper platform look at which delivery orders there are, which courier is nearby to deliver them and what packages they can take with them and then makes a price-quality analysis. For example, a delivery person who is on the way with flowers on his route can also pick up a pizza.
