Catawiki is an online auction site with in-house experts to adjudge lots
The province of Drenthe is home to one of the most successful internet-based companies in the Netherlands: Catawiki, based in Assen. The company has today announced that it has raised 150 million euros in investment from Permira; a London-based global investment fund with a portfolio that has includesd agrochemical giants Arysta LifeScience and the fashion brand Hugo Boss.
Catawiki will use the money to spend on technology, marketing and hiring more experts from all over Europe, reports RTV Drenthe.
The sales platform hopes that these combined efforts will lead to more people using the services of the online auction house. The company also wants to reward early investors and employees.
Catawiki was set up in 2008 in Assen, as somewhere for collectors to engage in comic books, and buy and sell stamps. A first auction was held at the end of 2011, after which the company grew by 300 percent for 5 years.
Special items offered on Catawiki include a mammoth skeleton, a 14k gold Lego stone, a first edition of Tintin; and an original script from the Game of Thrones television series.
