The Drents Museum has purchased a new painting by the German artist Tilo Baumgärtel.
In a statement, the museum in Assen said the painting titled Baboom arrived a few weeks ago after it managed to acquire it with the help of the VriendenLoterij lottery.
The work can be seen in the exhibition Tilo Baumgärtel – Das selbe Wasser and will be added to the museum’s growing collection of (Neue) Leipziger Schule works.
Tilo Baumgärtel studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, was taught by painter Arno Rink, and shared a studio space with Neo Rauch. Now Baumgärtel is a professor at the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, near Leipzig.
Baumgärtel draws inspiration for his works from fragments of memories, dreams, and documentaries.
Baboom is inspired by a dream of his in which his girlfriend had been travelling through the jungle for three months.
