The Province is an excellent place to explore by bike
Translated by Thomas Ansell
The Province of Drenthe is to invest four million euros into the quality of its cycle paths in the coming two years, reports the Asser Courant. The improvements to be made are intended to open the cycle paths up to more e-bikes and wider bikes such as bakfietsen.
The money is to come from the Investeringsagenda PLUS, with one million euros to be spent this year, and three million euros to be spent in 2022. A large number of bike paths will either be broadened, or made more weather resistant.
“Because our partners are also putting in 50 percent of the money required, we will be able to give a nice impulse into cycling in our province”, says provincial deputy Henk Brink (VVD).
The money will be given out via all of the gemeentes in the Province, as well as a number of organisations that work in the realm of leisure cycling, such as the Staatsbosbeheer, the Stichting Natuurmonumenten, and the Stichting Het Drentsche Landschap.
All necessary work should be complete by 2023.
