RTV Drenthe reports that a group of 10 to 15 Chinese tour operators will be shown around the province in the hopes that they will add Drenthe as a destination for their customers.
Alderperson Henk Brink says that the groups will see the best of the province over the course of the coming week. The groups will visit the Drents Museum, the Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre, the Hunebedmuseum and the Wooden Shoes Museum, among others.
More than just Amsterdam and Giethoorn
The province is footing the bill for the visit. “We see this as an acquisition campaign”, Brink says. “The only thing we know for sure is if we don’t try, they won’t come.”
Brink hopes that at least a couple of the tour operators will recognize Drenthe as an interesting market. “The Netherlands is more than just Amsterdam and Giethoorn”, Brink says.
