Drenthe goes orange in support of Dutch football team at Euro 2020

The Netherlands play Austria tonight at 21:00

Drenthe is the greenest province in the Netherlands, with beautiful rolling fields, ancient woodland, and famously beautiful vistas. But the Netherlands’ greenest province is slowly but surely turning orange in support of the Dutch national football team.

With the ‘Oranje’s’ second European Championship match on this evening, orange fever is quite visible throughout Drenthe. Several streets and neighborhoods have rolled up their sleeves to encourage the Dutch national team with a lot of decoration, reports RTV Drenthe.

The residents of the Jan van der Veenstraat in Hoogeveen, among others, have done everything they can to show that they support Orange. “Of course we do this to support the players, but also because it’s fun with each other,” Jolanda Kleine tells RTV Drenthe. “We have all collected money and set up neighborhood campaigns. It was a lot of work, but luckily we have nice neighbors.”

The decoration in the Burgemeester Borgerstraat in Roden is equally bright. 20-year-old Thimo Vlaar has drummed up the entire neighborhood together with his father and neighbour. “After collecting the money, everyone received a letter at home that we were going to decorate Friday evening. At seven o’clock the whole street was outside to help. It was ready in no time,” Vlaar nods with satisfaction. “It creates a fantastic atmosphere.”
