Drenthe battered by Storm Ciara

Dead cows and fallen trees in Drenthe as the fire brigade is called out eighty times

Storm Ciara caused considerable damage in Drenthe yesterday, with the KNMI issuing an orange warning. “We had dozens of reports of storm and water damage between twelve o’clock yesterday afternoon and eleven o’clock yesterday evening”, Marcel van Alphen of the Drenthe response centre told RTV Drenthe. “It was quite intensive for our 36 Drents fire stations. “

In Fluitenberg, two cows died when wind caused a barn to collapse.

A tree fell on a car on the Rolderstraat in Emmen, the street was then closed due to a jetty coming loose. The Oosthalen in Hooghalen was blocked by a fallen tree and the A28 shut in the direction of Assen. A house on the Parkweg in Winschoten’s roof started to lift off with the wind, before the fire brigade arrived to assist.

Storm Ciara also hit both Groningen and Friesland, causing damage.
