On June 6th, votes will be cast to elect members of the European Parliament representing the Netherlands. EU nationals who intend to vote in the country must register by April 23rd.
Voting as an EU international
EU nationals residing in the Netherlands may choose to vote in their home country or in the Netherlands. To vote for the Dutch European parliament elections, you must register to vote by filling out a Y-32 form and handing it to your municipality by April 23rd. Within 7 days, you will be informed if your registration is confirmed.
When registered you can vote at any polling station in your municipality on June 6th. The form is in Dutch but on the IWCN website there’s an explanation of it in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Polish.
EU nationals who instead want to vote on behalf of their own country may be able to do so if the deadline hasn’t passed already. You can check the registration deadlines here.
Voting as a Dutch national
Registering to vote isn’t necessary if you’re a Dutch national in the Netherlands. A voting pass will be sent to you like in any other election.
EU election debate in Groningen
In the run-up to the elections, the debate “ Why you should vote” will be held at the Forum in Groningen, organized by Studium Generale. Here things like the importance of voting, different political stances, and the decisions the EU has to make this year regarding climate change, migration, and the war in Ukraine will be discussed, among other things.
Candidates for the different political parties in the European Parliament will be challenged to explain and discuss their positions and crucial issues.
The debate will be held on May 27th at 20:00 and it will be free to attend, though tickets should be reserved. More info can be found here.
