As reported by the Omrop Fryslân, whilst the overall number of Coronavirus cases in Friesland has fallen week on week, several hotspots have emerged. The Gemeentes Dantumadiel, Achtkarspelen, and Tytsjersteradiel stand out as having particularly high concentrations of cases; especially in their care homes.
The highest number of confirmed tests in the last week was in the Gemeente Súdwest-Fryslân (Sneek), with 266. The Gemeente Leeuwarden, the largest, saw only 179 new cases.
Both those Gemeentes include cities, though, and if population is taken into account then Dantumadiel has 433 cases per 100,000 residents, Achtkarspelen 423, and Tytjerksteradiel 358.
In total 18,019 Frisian residents have had a confirmed test since last year, with the first confirmed case in the Province occurring in Gorredijk on March 10, 2020. The official death total from the Coronavirus in Friesland is 207, with 18 people dying in the last week.
Yesterday it was also confirmed that the British mutation of the Coronavirus has found its way into a care home in Surhuisterveen (Gem. Achtkarspelen), with 45 residents and 40 staff members testing positive.
