We are still in a global pandemic, even if it’s the summer

The number of people infected by a localised Coronavirus outbreak in Dokkum, Friesland, has risen to 18. Four further positive tests came about on Sunday- after a large party on a terrace was held.
As reported by the Omrop Fryslân. the party was held in a ‘domestic circle’, however despite one person at the party actually displaying Coronavirus symptoms, no social distancing was kept to, says Wim Kleinhuis of the Veiligheidsregio Fryslân. “That is essentially what occurred. We have to be much more aware in general, fresh-air is no guarantee of the virus not being passed on”, he said.
The GGD Friesland is now speaking of a ‘Coronavirus cluster’ in Dokkum. “Up until now we didn’t have any clusters, however we expect to find more in the coming weeks”, says Kleinhuis. A cluster is thought of as a minimum of three people infecting each-other at a gathering. Most clusters are currently located in the South and West of the Netherlands, with Dokkum being the first in the North.
The four people that were tested on Sunday were all linked to the group of friends that held the initial gathering. The GGD is not ruling out the possibility that more will follow. For up-to-date information, check the GGD Friesland’s website.
