As reported by the Omrop Fryslân, the number of Coronavirus cases in Friesland seems to have stabilised, with 630 new cases this week. The average number of daily infections is now 120 for the Province, whilst Leeuwarden remains the highest-affected Gemeente.
The Gemeente Súdwest-Fryslân is also another hotspot, whilst the Gemeente Schiermonnikoog reported no new cases across the whole week. According to the Dutch government’s Coronavirus dashboard, there were only 99 positive tests across the Province yesterday, lower than the 7-day average.
Wadden Islands proportionally worst affected
Due to their lower numbers of residents, when looked at proportionally the Wadden Islands of Vlieland and Terschelling have some of the worst Coronavirus figures in the Netherlands. This is despite everyone on the Wadden Islands having been offered a Coronavirus vaccine at least two months ago.
Vlieland has (population: about 1,140 people) has a proportional infection spread of 433 cases per 100,000 residents. Terschelling, on the other hand, has a proportional infection spread of 205 cases per 100,000 residents: but only has about 4,900 residents.
