For the full ‘holiday park’ vibe
Want to cool down with a drink in your hand and your feet in a paddling pool? Head on down to Groningen’s Grote Markt on Sunday, where you can soak your feet whilst drinking a beer in the middle of the city centre. It’s almost like going to the beach. Almost.
This paddling pool set-ups will observe the 1.5-meter social distancing regulation, making it a “Corona-proof foot bath terrace”, GROC.nl reports.
Whether you want to dip your toes into the pools or not, all visitors will be welcomed by ten ‘living statues’. It’s likely to be around 30 degrees centigrade on Sunday, so you really do have to feel for the ‘living statues’. They will be spread throughout the city at the Vismarkt, Grote Markt, Zwanestraat, Dichtestraat and Herestraat.
The promotion stems from the Gastvrij Groningen (‘Hospitable Groningen) programme, another interesting idea from Marketing Groningen, which hopes facilitates entrepreneurs in the city and neighborhood shopping centers with promotions for guests or customers and programming “small moments of happiness” for visitors to the city.
The activities from the Gastvrij Groningen programme run side by side with a summer campaign, the inventively-named “Celebrate the Groningen summer”, which will run until the end of September.
The aim of this campaign is to extend the season in which entrepreneurs can still make some money, because the main summer season has been shortened considerably due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Unfortunately, the campaign’s website is only available in Dutch, but you can read more on Groningsezomer.nl
