Friedrich’s insistance and lobbying for quicker and sense-led Coronavirus measures have helped Groningen come through the Coronavirus pandemic as the least affected area in the Netherlands
The most famous virologist in Groningen, Alex Friedrich, will leave the UMCG on 1 October to take up a position in Münster, Germany.
Friedrich (born in Nuremberg) is professor of microbiology in Groningen, and is to become chair of the board of directors at Münster’s teaching hospital, reports RTV Noord.
Alex Friedrich gained national fame in the Netherlands at the beginning of last year for his advice on containing the Coronavirus pandemic. It is also largely thanks to him that Groningen was one of the least infected regions in the Netherlands at the beginning of last year.
