When finished, the park will consist of 37 hectares (about 91 acres) of solar panels, making it twice as big as the largest solar park in Drenthe to date.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the solar park is being built between the Emmen business parks Bargermeer-Zuid and the A37 and is an initiative by VPB, the association of business park management in Emmen. The GroenLeven company from Heerenveen is responsible for the construction of the park.
A small portion of the solar power produced by the park will be used by a newly founded local co-operation called “Nieuw Oranjepoort”. With just two percent of the park’s total output, it will be able to cover 17 percent of Oranjedorp’s energy needs.
