After a year-long delay, construction will resume on the new Pathé movie theatre on the Ruiterskwartier in Leeuwarden in May.
Translation by Traci White
Construction works on the cinema between De Harmonie and the courthouse on the Ruiterskwartier came to a standstill in March of 2018, reportedly due to “rising construction costs” associated with the design of the building at the time.
Following a number of minor changes to the blueprint, including using different building materials and skipping on some detailing that is less visible behind the building, construction is set to get underway once again in May.
According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the cinema should be completed by the end of 2020. The cinema will have seven screens and 1,000 seats in total, and will be the third Pathé movie theatre in the city. Another movie theatre is set to be built at the new Cambuur stadium in the coming years.
