Construction will begin the new WestCord hotel on the eastern side of the Grote Markt on 4 June.
Rottinghuis, the contractors behind the project, will begin preparatory work on the site next week. The WestCord hotel will be located in the middle section of the eastern side of the Grote Markt, to the right of the Vindicat building.
The Groninger Internet Courant reports that contractors will begin to prepare the construction site, set up temporary utilities and lay the ground work for the pavements where the bus stop used to be located.
German architect Thomas Müller is designing the building, which will have around 110 rooms, a grand café and a rooftop terrace. The hotel is scheduled to open for business in 2019. WestCord is a Dutch hotel company with 16 locations across the Netherlands.
