The Colombian Migrant Film Festival is coming to Groningen and Leeuwarden from October 21st until October 27th.
The festival’s theme this year will be climate change and environmental displacement. Besides showing films, that will all have English subtitles, there will also be workshops, screenings, and debates related to the theme.
The festival will screen documentaries about the struggles of indigenous communities in Colombia relating to deforestation, urbanisation and degrading ecosystems, internal conflict in Columbia, queer activism in Columbia and more. Besides documentaries, there will also be films about urbanisation, the struggles in the Colombian countryside, and the dark and violent past of towns in Colombia.
In the first two days, a discussion on the film and its impact will be held after the screenings. There will also be a workshop to promote the exchange of ideas and the collective construction of solutions around the themes of the films. On the last day, there will be a conversation with Dr Bibiana Angelica Duarte and Dr Pablo Ampuero Ruiz who have demonstrated committed activism for climate justice through their work.
The films will be screened at the Marie Lokezaal in the University of Groningen’s (RUG) Harmony building, the RUG Fryslan location in Leeuwarden, the Immanuel church in Groningen, and Cafe Lust in Groningen.
The whole program will be available on the website. To attend the film festival you can register for free here.
