De Oosterpoort is thought to be too small for the city
This week, the municipality of Groningen has chosen the area around the Hoofdstation as the location for a new concert hall to replace De Oosterpoort as the main location for large-scale live music in the city. As reported by the GIC.
It seems likely that the city will also take the opportunity to realise a piece of eye-catching architecture, in a similar manner to the Groninger Forum. The architect is set to be announced in the future, but they’ll have a large amount of space to work with in the Rivierenbuurt.
To celebrate the announcement, the GIC is today showing a number of examples of international concert halls that can serve as a source of inspiration for Groningen. From Hamburg to Azerbaijan, and from London to Los Angeles.
