Hot weather is predicted from Wednesday
Summer time may be about to occur in the Northern Netherlands, according to weather reports. Luckily, hotheaded stadjers can then cool off at the city beach on the Oosterhamrikkanaal, which the municipality of Groningen has recently constructed.
Normally, the three trucks of sand arrive each King’s Day to construct an inner-city beach. But due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the municipality decided to wait until June, this year. Now that transmission rates in the North have fallen, and the virus seems to be transmit less outdoors, a green light has been given, reports the GIC.
The municipality is maintaining the regulations of keeping 1.5 meters away from other households on the beach. A new feature is that the giant pontoons on which the demolished CiBoGa boat rested will be moved from the opposite side of the canal to the beach, creating additional sun-bathing space. This will happen in the next few weeks.
Until then, beach-goers are not allowed to use the pontoons. Incidentally, you can also now cycle between DOT and the construction trailer over the Bloemsingel. The path between the beach and DOT had recently become pedestrian only.
