For two weekends in September, City Central and GroningenLife! will give in-person guided neighbourhood tours for new International students
After a two year hiatus, City Central’s guided Welcome Walks are back. On 11 & 12 and 18 & 19 September, two tour guides from GroningenLife! will lead new Internationals students through one of four of Groningen’s biggest student neighborhoods: the Oosterpoort, Ebbingekwartier/Binnenstad, Paddepoel, and Selwerd.
City Central is an organisation based in Groningen’s city centre, dedicated to helping new International people get to know their new city.
The Welcome Walks will start at various SSH student houses in the featured neighbourhoods. They are intended to help people zoom in on areas beyond the city center and share ways for newcomers to get involved and find the hidden gems that make their corner of the city unique. The Welcome Walks will also cover day-to-day essentials, such as locations for waste disposal, doctor’s offices, and where to buy groceries.
City Central’s staff personally creates each neighbourhood guide based on their own favourite spots, as well as making sure to cover the essentials that we all wish we’d known about back when we were new International residents ourselves.
The tours were first held back in the autumn of 2019 as a way for International students to learn all about their new neighbourhoods. The tours will cost 2.50 euros per person.
