Whether you’re looking for a caffeine jolt to kick off your weekend, a pint or two on a Friday night, or a low key brunch to roll into Sunday, Connect International has you covered.
Paddy O’Ryan Irish Pub in Leeuwarden has hosted Connect’s pub events over the past few years, but due to corona restrictions, it’s been a minute since the last one was held back in the summer of 2021. The pub evening will be Friday, 25 February at 17:30, and entrance is free for members (5 euros for non-members), plus paying for your own drinks.
If you are more of an early bird than a pub crawler, Leeuwarden also has a coffee morning every two weeks. The next upcoming one will be Friday, 18 February at 11 at Fire Café (Nieuwestad 47 – 49), alongside the canal flowing through the heart of the city.
In Drenthe, Connect will host another Sunday brunch in Emmen at 11 on 20 February. The location for this event will be announced shortly before the event, and it is free for everyone to join, whether they are Connect members or not (plus paying for your own meals).
And in Groningen, coffee mornings have been a staple of Connect’s in-person events over the years, often at La Place above the former V&D department store on the Grote Markt. Their next one will be on Saturday, 19 February at 11, and the location varies from one week to the next, so newcomers can get to know a range of gezellig local spots and see for themselves where to get the best cup of coffee in town. Café Pronk’s fireside terrace was the destination of one recent gathering:

If you would like to attend one of these upcoming events, be sure to sign up quick: registration closes for the Emmen brunch one day in advance, and a few hours before for the other gatherings.
About Connect International
Connect International is a media partner of The Northern Times. The organization has been making social connections between internationals living in Groningen, Drenthe and Friesland looking for friends and fun in their new home here in the north for more than 25 years.
Connect is located in the city of Groningen, but they organize activities in all three provinces of the north, like wellness sessions, exercise groups, city trips, crafts and cooking workshops, book clubs and more – and members are encouraged to start up their own interest groups. The organisation also provides personal advice sessions and practical information for incoming internationals, and assists Dutch companies with intercultural awareness to be more welcoming to their international employees.
