Carillon in Martinitoren to play Canadian anthem

In honour of the anniversary of the liberation of Groningen by Canadian troops, city carillon player Auke de Boer will perform the Canadian national anthem at noon on 17 April.

De Boer often plays the Canadian anthem, “O Canada”, during the first weeks of April each year. In 1945, Canadian soldiers and other allied troops fought to free the city and province of Groningen from Nazi forces between 14 and 18 April.

On Tuesday 17 April from 12 to 1, De Boer will play a live concert on the bells in the Martinitoren. The Canadian anthem will be featured, along with other songs which were popular in the spring of 1945.
