The Leeuwarder Courant reports that the number of registered car thefts in Friesland was significantly lower in 2017 than 2016.
In 2017, there were only 65 reported cases of car theft, the lowest number since at least 2010. That was exactly half the number reported in 2016, when 130 vehicle theft cases were filed.
Heerenveen
The biggest decline occurred in Heerenveen: there were 20 registered thefts in 2016, but only 5 in 2017. In Leeuwarden, the number was also down from 30 in 2016 to 15 in 2017.
Although the number of car thefts is down across the Netherlands in recent years, the number of solved cases is also down. Between 2011 and 2016, the percentage of car theft cases where the police identified at least one suspect went down from 11 to 6.5.
