In Hoogeveen, a patch of roofing without any snow on it in a row of houses revealed the location of a cannabis growing operation.

RTV Drenthe reports that police were responding to complaints about a strong odour in the Schoonvelde neighbourhood. When the police arrived on the Rontgenhof, they were quickly able to locate the source: a cannabis grow house whose roof was suspiciously free of snow. Grow houses require a lot of electricity and emit far more heat than the average structure, so the snow on the roof melted while the surrounding homes remained covered.
The police found 300 plants inside the home. It was not immediately clear if anyone was taken into custody in connection to the grow house. A specialist team was called in to dismantle the facility.
